Contrary to popular belief, French toast was not invented in France. According to this colorful infographic, the breakfast delight was actually invented in upstate New York!
Apparently in 2003 the US government tried to change the name to ‘Freedom Toast’ after a dispute with the country of France. Or that there is evidence of ancient Romans being the first to invent the delicacy by soaking bread in a mixture of milk and egg and then frying it in butter or oil. Many cultures caught on to using this method as a way to use up stale bread. French Toast is so adored it even has its own National Day on November 28th.
