America has spoken, and America likes a Southern drawl.
Southern accents took 17.71% of the “most attractive” vote in Preply’s 2026 survey. It beat Boston/New England (10.2%), the Midwest (10%), and NYC (9.1%).
Louisiana was the #1 favorite accent in the state-by-state poll at 7.25%. Ironically, it also ranked as the hardest to understand. The generation gap is wild too. Boomers gave the South its win, whereas Gen Z thought the NYC accent was the most attractive. The funniest generational finding though? 82.5% of Boomers have never heard the word “delulu.” Maybe that’s for the best.
