Public domain is about to get a lot more interesting. Over the next decade, icons like Pluto, King Kong, Donald Duck, Goofy, Snow White, Superman, Batman, Bugs Bunny, Captain America, and Wonder Woman are expected to become available for new creative takes.
A new chart from PixlParade shows the timeline. Indie filmmakers, writers, artists, and game developers could soon reimagine some of pop culture’s biggest names without traditional licensing barriers. We’ve already seen wild horror twists on characters like Winnie the Pooh and Bambi, and this may be just the beginning. The next wave of public domain characters could spark a huge creativity boom.
