Mapping Child Abuse in the U.S.

Child abuse remains a serious issue, with 558,899 cases reported in 2022. A study by Joslyn Law Firm identified the states with the highest child abuse rates per capita, led by Massachusetts (16.5 cases per 100,000 children), followed by West Virginia, Iowa, and Maine. Mississippi had the highest fatality rate from abuse and neglect.

Conversely, the lowest rates were found in New Jersey (1.6 per 100,000), Pennsylvania, and Washington. Alarmingly, 75% of perpetrators were parents. These findings highlight the urgent need for awareness and stronger protection for vulnerable children.
