Tattooing is not only a modern way of displaying artwork, showing beliefs, or expressing tributes to loved ones and idols. In fact, tattoos have been found on human skin dating as far back as 3370 BC!
The first tattoo was discovered on a frozen natural mummy named Ötzi, who lived between 2270 – 3100 BC. His body was found in the Alps between Austria and Italy with 61 tattoos consisting of dots and lines.
Other discoveries from Mummys, ancient civilizations, and tribal cultures show that tattooing was used to express religious beliefs, symbolize wealth, protect against evil spirits, and brand criminals.
It took a while before tattoos were accepted by modern society, and they went through a journey of being reserved only for thugs and those opposing rules and regulations. However, over time, they have become common in people from all walks of life, including models and actors.
