AGM Battery: Everything you Need to Know

A new AGM battery is a type of sealed lead-acid battery. The abbreviation AGM stands for absorbed glass mat, which refers to the porous layer of fiberglass material that covers the negative and positive plates inside the casing. It is also known as a valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) battery because it uses valves to release gases during overcharge and undercharge conditions. One benefit of an AGM battery is its high discharge rate at 40 amps per hour with no significant voltage drop until the cells are almost completely discharged. This makes them ideal for use in higher current draw applications like racing cars that require instant acceleration from a standstill or when starting large diesel engines on cold mornings where there may be a heavy load on starter motors.
