Social Media Age Usage Chart Draws a Line Between Personal and Professional

Ooma’s new study explores the popularity of different social media platforms based on age, and we find clear differences in preferences.

LinkedIn is used by people between 50 and 64 years old, one of the only platforms where this age demographic is the largest user base. This suggests that older people favor social media use for professional purposes over entertainment, since platforms like TikTok and Snapchat skew toward a much younger user base. YouTube was an exception in many ways. It has the widest appeal among all age demographics, likely because its vast library includes content focused on education, entertainment, money-making, and professional development.
