What are the fastest-growing and fastest-declining industries in the United States? This chart visualizes data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics on industry employment growth and decline between 2021-2031. The fastest-growing sectors are leisure, hospitality, healthcare, and social assistance. The fastest-declining sectors are manufacturing, information, mining, agriculture, forestry, fishing, and hunting, and financial activities. It seems these predicted trends may be in part due to human qualities such as creativity, interpersonal skills, empathy, and emotional intelligence being difficult to replace by artificial intelligence. The number one fastest-declining industry is tobacco manufacturing, which correlates with a steady drop in smokers over the past few decades.
