How do high school graduation rates compare across the United States? According to this guide from U.S. Career Institute, they can differ greatly from one state or county to the next. The average graduation rate by state varies from 83% to 94% with California at the low end and Montana at the high end. The counties with the highest graduation rates seem to be mainly scattered throughout the Midwest, with a concentration of them in the state of Colorado. A majority of the counties with the lowest graduation rates can be found in Texas, California, and around New York City.
